Description

This is an early 18th-century monument erected in memory of Huw Morys (Eos Ceiriog), born in 1622 and died in August 1709. The monument consists of an obelisk constructed from unpolished grey stone, set upon a square plinth with a flat capstone. Inscribed on the capstone are the name "Huw Morus (Eos Ceiriog)" and the dates of birth and death. Further inscriptions are present on the south and west sides of the plinth. One inscription on the west side commemorates Mr D Jones of Pont y Meibion, who raised the obelisk in 1909. The obelisk stands within a triangular enclosure defined by rubble stone walls topped with copings. A simple iron gate is located in the north corner, and the south wall also serves as the boundary wall to the adjacent road.
