Description

This is a former Methodist chapel, now a house, built in a Georgian domestic style. The date of construction is not specified, but it is likely from the 18th century. Originally, it comprised a central chapel section and a minister’s house to the right. The symmetrical front has three bays, with a central, projecting entrance bay featuring a pediment supported by a dentil cornice and a dated stone tablet. A reed-moulded doorcase frames a door made of flush and fielded panels; the original overlight has been boarded over. To the left of the entrance is a fixed 16-pane window, and to the right, in the minister’s house section, is a 16-pane hornless sash window, both under keyed wedge lintels. The upper storey has round-headed windows with keystones, each containing pivoting lights with radial glazing. One window in the left-hand bay was added during conversion to a dwelling. A boarded lean-to porch with a boarded door is located in the right-hand end wall, representing the original entrance to the minister’s house, and a 2-light casement window is positioned to its right, with two similar windows in the upper storey. The rear of the chapel incorporates a central advanced bay and notable round-headed windows with iron-frame glazing, a feature added in the late 19th century. These replaced original, shorter windows that retained the same arched heads. The left-hand bay, formerly the minister's house, has a lean-to boarded canopy over a boarded door, and a 2-light casement window to its right. The interior has been rebuilt. The roof is hipped and covered with old slates, with a brick stack to the right of centre.
