Description
The Malt House, which includes an attached cottage to the right, is a three-storey building with a two-window front made of brown brick, featuring dentilated eaves under a slate roof. The ground floor is whitewashed, and there is a brick chimney stack on the eastern gable end. The facade is centrally composed around a nailed front door that is sheltered by a gabled hood. It has six three-light, near-flush casement windows with cambered heads, and the second floor has small-pane windows. Evidence of changes to the brickwork indicates that the original house was raised in the 19th century.
To the right, stepped down, is a two-storey cottage made of painted brown brick, which is part of a terrace that includes Shop Cottage. It has a slate roof and a centrally placed doorway under a gabled hood, with toothed dentilated brick eaves. The first floor features a two-light casement window, while the ground floor has two modern bow windows.
In the 1980s, during refurbishment, the former Post Office was incorporated into the ownership of the Malt House, resulting in alterations to the plan form to create a single dwelling.
