Description
The barn at Nequis Hall Estate is an exceptionally large hay barn built from rubble, dating back to the 17th century and raised in the late 18th century. It features a shallow-pitched slate roof with coped gables and shaped kneelers. The barn has three tiers of ventilation slits, with an additional tier added during the raising. At that time, the central entrance was enlarged and given a wide, depressed-arched head. Flanking this entrance, there are two oculi above, which have plain ashlar voussoirs. There is also a brick cambered-headed entrance with a boarded stable door on the north gable, along with a loading bay above.
Inside, the barn has seven bays, and the original trusses remain in place despite the raising. These are queen post trusses with chamfered, trenched purlins.
