Description
40-42 Queen Street is a three-storey building dating from the 19th century, featuring a rendered exterior with decorative quoins and architraves, topped by a concrete tiled roof and wall stacks. The building has a four-window range, with entrances to upstairs accommodation on the left and shop fronts on the right. The entrances and shop fronts for Nos 40-42 have been renewed, while Nos 44-46 retains an original doorway accessed by steps, framed in a moulded architrave, along with a late 19th-century shop front that includes a deep central entrance lobby. The shop windows extend to either side of the entrance and continue inside, creating display areas, and are topped by a high bracketed fascia. The first floor features twelve-pane sash windows, with the right-hand windows designed as canted oriel bays supported by fluted columns, and continues with sill bands. The upper storey has similar windows, with the twelve-pane sashes in Nos 40-42 replaced in their original openings.
