Description

Tre-castell Farmhouse is a rendered stone farmhouse, dating from the 19th and 20th centuries, with a slate roof and a tile ridge. It has four windows on the front elevation, arranged over two storeys. The older chimney stacks are located at the left end and centrally, and are paired and connected at the cornice level. A simpler chimney stack is at the right end. The front elevation features four-pane sash windows with horns, varying in size. A stone porch is situated to the right. Although eroded, the architrave and cornice mouldings of the original doorway remain visible beneath the render.

The rear elevation has large gables on the right and centrally, with modern windows set in irregularly spaced openings. A small, flat-roofed porch is centrally positioned, containing a boarded door with counterboards and nail studs.

The original plan incorporated an inside-cross-passage, with a large hearth in the west wing. The house was later extended. Inside, exposed chamfered beams and joists are visible. The large hearth retains a timber bressummer, partially cut away. A rear staircase features a heavily moulded string and handrail; the balusters are believed to be enclosed. A bedroom corner fireplace has ovolo-moulded jambs and a simple cyma cornice. Three cast-iron bedroom hearths are also present.
