Description

Ty Gwyn is a rectangular one-and-a-half storey house built in a restrained inter-war vernacular style. It features roughcast brick construction and a hipped roof made of graded slate with a high iron content, topped with a tiled ridge and oversailing, boarded eaves. The house has two plain brick stacks: a star-shaped stack on the left and a rectangular stack on the right, along with plain clasping buttresses at the corners.

The entrance is off-centre to the left, accessed via two brick steps, and features a wide arched opening with deep shallow splays that create a porch recess. The entrance door is made of boarded and studded oak. In front of the entrance, there is a contemporary flight of five brick steps leading to a garden path. To the left of the entrance, there is a large, recessed, tripartite metal-framed casement window with small panes, while to the right are two small square windows with four panes each.

Above the entrance, there is a twelve-pane casement window in an elegant first-floor eyebrow dormer. To the right, under the eaves, is a triple four-pane window, accompanied by a square four-pane window beyond. On the west side, there is another twelve-pane casement window, with a small window beyond and a modern door and window to the right. The rear features a triple six-pane casement window on the ground floor, with paired triple windows in an eyebrow dormer above, similar to the front. There is also a four-part glazed French window in the centre, with a large tripartite eight-pane window to the right, and a modern glasshouse addition in the central section. The east side has another eyebrow dormer, but this side includes an out-of-character modern conservatory addition at ground level, where there was formerly a tripartite window.

The interiors are plain and largely modernised, featuring a primary half-well stair that is now boxed-in, with an oak handrail and replaced doors.
