Description
Pont-y-Pair is a 5-span rubble bridge measuring approximately 45 meters in length. Originally about 2.5 meters wide, it has been widened on the northwest (upstream) side by an additional 2.5 meters. The arches of the bridge are segmental and vary in width and height, with some springing directly from the rock. The central and widest arch spans the river itself, featuring roughly-dressed voussoirs that are slightly inset beneath arch-rings made of narrower stones. The bridge has low rubble parapets that are splayed at the approaches and capped with slatestone slabs.
