Description

The Chocolate House, formerly known as the Church Hall, is a T-shaped building that is one and one-and-a-half storeys high, constructed of rubble with modern slate roofs and squat, louvred chimneys. The primary north wing dates back to the late 16th century, with additions from the 17th century. The building underwent significant remodelling in the late 19th century, and all current openings and features are from that period.

The entrance is located on the east side of the north wing, with a window to the right and two large gabled dormers above. All openings on this side have shallow, triangular pointed slatestone lintels. To the left, there is a projecting gabled crosswing featuring two tall windows with paired lights. Between this crosswing and the north range is a single-storey catslide porch that has a plain opening on the side and an arched opening facing forward. The front of the crosswing has a plain inner entrance. There is also a further catslide extension beyond the crosswing, which includes a window that was formerly an entrance, along with similar tall windows on the far left. Modern tall glazed double doors are present on the south and west faces, accompanied by paired tall windows to the right of each. Additionally, there is a single-storey catslide addition to the south of the west range. The interiors have been modernised.
