Description
The Tan-y-Castell Monument is a columnar structure made of brown specked marble, standing approximately 7 meters high. It features three cylindrical stages set on a stepped plinth made of cement-rendered rubble. Surrounding the monument is a D-shaped enclosure with cast-iron railings. The monument includes a two-stage marble column resting on a square, chamfered marble base, with moulded bases and abaci for each section. The lower, broader section has a recessed inscription plaque that reads in raised lettering: "In memory of 4 eminent brothers, John, William, David, and Richard Jones: Three ministers and one elder, 1796-1885." The decoration on this section is panelled and made with inlaid lighter marble. The base of the upper section features inscribed panels that say: "eloquence, music, theology, poetry." At the top of the monument is a large urn finial.
