Description
The Fowl House at Drws yr Ymlid Farm is a 19th-century farm building designed as a general fowl-house for chickens and geese, intended to protect these animals from foxes. The structure is built from local rubble and features a monopitched slate roof. To the west, it is separated from the farmhouse forecourt by a small rectangular enclosure that is open to the south. On the eastern side of the fowl-house is a quadrant-shaped yard, also walled with rubble and gated, which provides access to the building.
Originally, the fowl-house would have had an internal floor. Access is provided on the eastern side through two openings separated by a slate lintel: a small square opening for chickens above a taller opening for geese. Near the entrance on the northern side of the yard is a small goose pen, which is a low rectangular recess with a stone lintel. Inside, the fowl-house has a stone-flagged floor.
