Description
Pont Gwanas is a twin-arched road bridge made of rubble, dating from the 18th century or earlier, with repairs noted in 1830. The bridge features segmental arches that are separated by a triangular full-height cutwater on the upstream side. The parapet has a slight camber that follows the rise of the road. On the upstream side, the rubble parapets extend to the north, where they have been extensively repaired recently. On the south side, the parapet continues for about 4 meters towards the new road, where it connects to a modern rubble dwarf wall that curves around to flank the new road to the west. On the downstream side, the south bridge parapet ends at a junction with a section of 19th-century wall that steps up. An adjoining wall and gatepiers create the entrance to Caerynwch.
