Description
Star House is a four-storey building with a cellar, featuring three window openings. The upper two storeys were originally used as loom rooms and later converted into storerooms. The left-hand corner of the building is canted back. It is constructed of coursed rubble masonry and has a moderately pitched quarry slate roof with a cavetto eaves cornice and close verges. There are contemporary brick stacks and water tabling.
The building has Victorian sash windows on the second and third floors, which are topped with stone lintels. There is a loading door above a sash window at the canted corner, where the window has been reduced in size from a former doorway. The first floor has three Victorian sash windows with stone lintels, and there is a similar window on the ground floor to the left of the cellar doorway. The central doorway features a 19th-century door with two of its three upper panels glazed. Above the door, there is a slate tablet inscribed: "Built by DPM 1800."
On the right side of the front elevation, a later 19th-century shop has been built out in brick. The shop has plain windows flanking the central doorway and a flat roof adorned with interlaced 19th-century ironwork cresting.
At the rear, a stone staircase with a stone "bridge" provided access to the second floor for loom workers.
