Description

The farmhouse is constructed of squared rubble stone with stone gable chimney stacks, projecting cills, and a slate roof. It dates from the 19th century and has two storeys and a three-window range, which is offset. The entrance is located to the left of the centre. The windows have been replaced within original 19th-century openings. The right-hand gable is plain, except for a small, deeply recessed two-light timber mullion window positioned high up. A two-storey, single-bay kitchen wing is attached to the rear, featuring a door at the junction with the main house, a wide window to the ground floor, and a smaller window above. A small window is present in the rear elevation of the house. The gable and left-hand elevations of the kitchen wing are plain.

A single-bay cow house is situated in line to the left of the house, featuring a door to the ground floor, a window above, and an upper doorway in the left gable, accessed by external stone steps. A cat slide extension is attached against the rear, with a door at the end. There is a gap between the cat slide extension and the kitchen wing, containing square windows to both the ground and first floors.

The farmhouse exhibits group value alongside an ‘L’ shaped barn and cart shed located immediately to the north, which are also considered to be of special interest.

The central entrance hall leads to a former hall, now used as a kitchen, located to the right. A parlour is situated at the front to the left, and a service room, now a bathroom, is located to the rear left. The ground floor features boarded doors to both the parlour and kitchen, along with a flagged floor. The kitchen contains a large fireplace with a plain chamfered beam and a later range. Stairs are located to the left of the fireplace, and a small cupboard is built into the wall to the right. The ceiling framing is heavy, with all timbers exhibiting plain chamfer stops. The parlour has a late 19th-century slate fireplace surround. A partition constructed of massive upright slate slabs separates the parlour from the rear service room, which is now a bathroom. A passage runs along the side of the stairs, leading through to the kitchen wing at the rear, which features a large fireplace with a range, and the same heavy ceiling framing. Central dog leg stairs ascend to the first floor, with a wide landing and two bedrooms on either side. A room located at the rear of the right-hand side features gable stairs and a panelled partition at the head of the stairs. There is access to a room over the rear kitchen, with a blocked fireplace and windows in the gable. A collar and strut truss sits over a notched heavy ceiling beam.
