Description

Brynhyfryd is a villa featuring Italianate detailing, constructed with stucco, quoins, and ground floor channeling, topped with a half-hipped slate roof and tall end stacks. The building has two storeys and an attic, along with a basement. It generally showcases small-pane sash windows with marginal bars.

The south front displays three windows, with those on the first floor adorned with architraves and entablatures. The ground floor windows, which have bracketed cornices, flank a glazed Ionic porch, leading to a part-glazed door with an overlight featuring stained glass. To the east, there is a lower, slightly later extension that includes a cornice and blocking course, with a first floor window consisting of paired semi-circular lights and a 16-pane sash window on the ground floor. The east side has blind windows on the first floor, while both the east and west sides at attic level have two small sash windows each.

On the north elevation, the first floor features a large central sash stair window with a bracketed cornice, flanked by windows with architraves. The ground floor has a modern porch with a window with an architrave on each side, and steps leading down to an area that provides access to the cellar. At the northeast angle, there are 20th-century steps leading to the upper floor.

Inside, the villa retains high-quality mahogany fittings, including the staircase, window shutters, panelled doors, skirtings, and plaster ceiling cornices and roses, particularly in the dining room, hall, and landing. The central entrance hall showcases impressive ceiling plasterwork and a wooden stair. The dining room to the left features fine ceiling plasterwork and a blue-grey Italian marble fireplace. The drawing room to the right now has a separate entrance, with the cornice reportedly intact above the suspended ceiling. Slate steps lead down to the cellar, which has high ceilings and a slate-flagged floor. A wooden stair connects the first floor to the attic, which contains four rooms at the corners with simplified detailing. Steps lead to the loft, which features a heavily-built king-post roof.
