Description
This is a two-storey shop and house, dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of roughly coursed and squared quarried stone, with a slate roof that is hipped to the right-hand side. The building has projecting boarded eaves facing Market Square and slated eaves facing Church Street, where there are two skylights. A stone stack is located on the Market Square elevation.
The Market Square facade features a recessed replacement door on the left-hand side, which is beneath an overlight. To the right of this is a large modern shop window, followed by a vertical joint indicating the presence of an earlier doorway. Further to the right is a glazed door flanked by shop windows. Both shop windows have modern rubble below the sills, suggesting the presence of earlier, larger openings and shop fronts. A modern painted fascia extends across the entire shop front. The upper storey of the Market Square elevation contains two four-pane, horned sash windows on the left side, with a single six-pane, hornless sash window to the right.
The Church Street elevation has a large shop window on the left side, with replacement glazing in what was an earlier opening. A blocked doorway and another blocked doorway to the right have been converted into a window, although it was likely originally a window and part of the adjoining property at No. 1 Church Street. The upper storey of this elevation has two six-pane, hornless sash windows. The property was not inspected internally.
