Description
Pwllheli Hospital, originally a workhouse building, features a standard grid plan with transverse and spinal ranges connected by a central octagonal block. The main range is a symmetrical two-storey structure with a coursed rubble front, displaying a 3+2+3 window arrangement. The central two bays project under a gable that has a blind attic roundel and was formerly adorned with a portico. The building is topped with slate roofs that include ventilators. It has horned four-pane sash windows with cement rendered margins. Below the central windows, there is a broad lintel and a simple cornice supported by two tapered piers. The recessed part-glazed door is flanked by two twelve-pane sashes. There are two-window extensions at either end: a two-storey extension on the left with boarded doors and a single-storey extension on the right featuring a four-panel door. The rest of the structure is covered in pebbledash with some modern additions. The two-storey spinal range primarily has four-pane sashes, while the central part of the transverse range and the three-storey octagon are notable features. To the east, there is a taller range that includes a high segmental arched passage leading to the rear courtyard.
