Description

The monuments to John Williams and Ellis Owen are two pink granite tombstones located side by side. The western tombstone features a cubic die set on a moulded base, topped with a cornice that carries a stepped cross, all surrounded by low cast iron railings with fleur terminals. The eastern tombstone consists of a short column with a cavetto-sided conical apex that supports a turned vase. The first tombstone is inscribed to John Williams, also known as Ioan Madog, a notable bard who died in 1878. The second tombstone is dedicated to Ellis Owen of Cefn Meusydd, who passed away in 1868. Both individuals were prominent literary figures in South Caernarfonshire during the third quarter of the 19th century.
