Description
The Alfred Hughes Memorial is a monument made of pink granite. It features a tall Celtic style cross with a slight curve, decorated with chequered panels at the top and bottom, and a circular head that has a central relief rosette on each side. The cross stands on a cubic plinth with cushioned sides, which is set on a rectangular base. The western face of the base is inscribed in memory of Alfred William Hughes, Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. On the upper plinth, there is an attached bronze disk displaying his embossed bust, surrounded by the raised inscription "ALFRED WILLIAM HUGHES . MAGISTER . DILECTUS." The field reads "PRO PATRIA MORTUIS MDCCCC."
