Description

This is a short, late-Georgian style terrace of three 3-storey houses situated on a corner site, forming a group with 50-52 Castle Street and 2 Steeple Lane. The houses have pebble-dashed walls set on a freestone plinth, with ashlar quoins and a slate roof punctuated by roughcast, brick, and pebble-dashed stacks.

Numbers 50 and 52 Castle Street are each two-bay houses, with the main entrance located in the left-hand bay of each, above which are blind windows. Number 50 has a moulded doorcase surrounding a recessed door constructed of two round-headed panels and an overlight. To the right of the door is a 12-pane horned sash window, which sits beneath an entablature featuring a dentilled cornice. The middle storey has a two-light oriel window. The remaining windows have smooth-rendered architraves and raised bands, with the upper storey featuring a 9-pane sash window. Number 52 has a painted freestone surround framing a six-panel door and a plain overlight. Windows in this property are 12-pane hornless sashes on the lower and middle storeys, and a shorter 9-pane sash in the upper storey.

Number 2 Steeple Lane presents a single bay facing Castle Street. This bay mirrors the fenestration of the other houses, with a 12-pane hornless sash window on the lower storey, a two-light oriel window on the middle storey, and a shorter 9-pane hornless sash window on the upper storey. The Steeple Lane elevation has a four-panel door and a 12-pane hornless sash window on the left. A replacement stair window is positioned in the upper left corner.

The rear elevation of Number 2 Steeple Lane features small sash windows above a single-storey lean-to addition. Number 52 Castle Street has hornless small-pane and replacement sashes. Number 50 Castle Street has a later, added rear wing.
