Description

The Skinner Monument is a pale stone obelisk situated on a two-tier plinth. The plinth supports the obelisk, which features classicising high-relief decorations including urns, ship’s prows, and an Egyptian winged sun. The plinth itself is adorned with reliefs that depict funereal motifs such as urns extinguishing fire and inverted torches. There is also a square panel on the plinth that bears an inscription highlighting the virtues of Captain Skinner.
