Description
The Screen Wall to Soldier's Point House is a Grade II listed structure made of dark local rubble featuring quartz banding and decorative dressings around arrow loops. This rustic garden architecture includes battlements.
To the north of the house, there is a high octagonal tower with a castellated design, accented by white quartz. It has machicolations and the faces of the octagon are adorned with cruciform loops outlined in white quartz, along with doorways that have shallow arches. The wall descends to the east, leading to a low square tower that also has a shallow arched doorway, and continues to a turret followed by another similar square tower.
To the east of this section, the wall turns slightly southeast, stepping down between round turrets and ending at a low square tower with shallow-arched doorways. To the west of the high octagonal tower, the wall steps down to a blocked gateway flanked by towers and continues to a pier where the wall runs south along the east side of the lane in a simpler style, featuring rustic crenellations between stone piers. This section includes a gateway leading to the rear yard of Soldier’s Point House.
