Description

This is a terrace of three-storey houses, built in 1869. The houses are numbered 1 to 7 and form a group of considerable architectural merit.

The majority of the houses have pebble-dashed walls, with number 1 having a painted brick front and number 2 recently cleaned chequerboard brickwork with limestone dressings. The roofs are slate, with roughcast stacks, except for a brick stack at the left end. Numbers 1 to 6 are arranged in three pairs of two-bay houses, with round-headed entrances set within the inner bays, each having an overlight. Number 1 has a panelled door, number 2 has a modern replacement door, and numbers 3 and 4 retain their original panelled doors. Numbers 1 to 4 also feature moulded imposts and keystones above the doorways. Numbers 5 and 6 have replacement doors within surrounds featuring pilasters, arches with faceted keystones, and a cornice above. The outer bays of the terrace have two-storey canted bay windows. Most windows are 4-pane sashes, although number 2 has replacement windows; it also has a sill band on the middle storey. Numbers 3 to 6 each feature plain rendered architraves. A tablet between numbers 4 and 5 displays raised letters and numerals which read "The West End 1869."

Number 7, at the right end of the terrace, is a three-bay house. The central and left-hand bays project slightly and are set back under projecting eaves. The central bay has a replacement panelled door with a round-headed overlight and a moulded architrave with a keystone. The right-hand bay has a two-storey canted bay window, and the left-hand bay features tripartite sash windows within architraves with a keystone in the middle storey. The upper storey also has keyed architraves, and all windows are 4-pane sashes. The right gable end has 4-pane sash windows to the left side on the lower and middle storeys, with an inserted window on the right side in the lower storey, next to a single-storey lean-to. Number 1 has small-pane sash windows in its left gable end.

The rear of the terrace is constructed of rubble stone, partly rendered, with each pair of houses having a lower, two-storey gabled wing. Most rear windows are small-pane sashes. A vertical joint is visible between numbers 6 and 7, and number 7 has replacement windows.
