Description

3 The West End is a terrace of three-storey houses, featuring painted pebble-dashed walls, except for No 1 which has a painted brick front. No 2 showcases recently cleaned chequerboard brickwork with limestone dressings. The slate roof has roughcast stacks, except for a brick stack at the left end. The terrace consists of three reflected pairs of two-bay houses. Round-headed entrances are located in the inner bays and include overlights. No 1 has a panelled door, No 2 has a modern replacement door, and Nos 3 and 4 have panelled doors. Nos 1-4 feature moulded imposts and keystones. No 5 has a panelled door, while No 6 has a replacement door, both set in surrounds with pilasters, arches with faceted keystones, and a cornice above. The outer bays are adorned with two-storey canted bay windows. All windows are four-pane sashes, except for the replacement windows in No 2, and there is a sill band at the middle storey. Nos 3-6 have plain rendered architraves. Between Nos 4 and 5 is a tablet with raised letters and numerals reading 'The West End 1869'.

No 7, located at the right end, is a three-bay house, with the centre and left-hand bays set back under projecting eaves. Its narrower central bay features a replacement panel door with a round-headed overlight, set in a moulded architrave with a keystone. The right-hand bay has a two-storey canted bay window, while the left-hand bay contains tripartite sash windows in architraves, also with a keystone in the middle storey. The upper storey has keyed architraves, and all windows are four-pane sashes. The right gable end has four-pane sash windows on the left side in the lower and middle storeys, with an inserted window on the right side in the lower storey, next to a one-storey lean-to.

No 1 has small-pane sash windows in its left gable end. The rear of the terrace is constructed of rubble stone, partly rendered, and each pair of houses has a lower two-storey gabled wing. Most windows are small-pane sashes. A vertical joint is present between Nos 6 and 7, with No 7 featuring replacement windows. The property has not been inspected.
