Description
Ellen's Tower, also known as Twr Ellin, is a picturesque castellated folly built in 1868. It is two stories high and square in plan, featuring an advanced, raised tower at the southeast corner. The structure is made of rubble masonry and is roughcast rendered, topped with a flat roof and a projecting crenellated parapet.
The tower includes a square-headed entrance on the lower level, with a single square-headed light above and 'arrow slits' on each face of the tower. To the right of the main entrance, there is another square-headed doorway with a slate plaque above that reads: "TWR ELLIN, ERECTED IN 1868, BY ELLIN, WIFE OF THE HONBLE W. OWEN STANLEY, M.P. OF PENRHOS, MAY ALL WHO VISIT THIS PLACE BLESS HER MEMORY. BENDITHIED PAWB A YMWELANT A'R LLE HWN EI CHOFFADWRIATH." The right return and rear walls feature large three-pane windows, while the left return has a smaller single-pane light.
