Description
The Town Clock is a Neo-Gothic memorial clock tower constructed from snecked limestone masonry. It features a polygonal shape with pedimented gablets that emphasize the cardinal faces, culminating in a conical spirelet adorned with lucarnes and topped by a weathercock. The tower stands on a tapered polygonal plinth, which includes an entrance with a shouldered arch on the south elevation, and arched recesses on the east and west sides, both equipped with metal lion-head water spouts. The east spout is positioned over a curved trough at the base, while the west spout is above a smaller, curved basin. The upper sections of the tower are highlighted by narrow stair lights, a granite inscription plate with gilded lettering above the entrance, and clocks on each cardinal face. These clocks are corbelled out and feature pedimented gabled heads with narrow, segmental-headed vents in the tympanum, all topped with ball-finials.
