Description
The war memorial in front of the Shire Hall is a cenotaph type memorial dedicated to the First World War. It features three stages and is set on a square, bevelled-stepped plinth. The top stage consists of a square column with tapering sides that ends in a shallow cap supported by arched brackets. The shaft is positioned on a bevelled step, with each face adorned with a moulded wreath. The middle stage includes short square columns at each corner, with polished stone tablets inscribed set in the recesses between them. The lower stage is a wide square block that has a moulded cornice and base, with each face displaying a polished stone tablet inscribed with the names of the men from the parish who fell in the First World War. Additionally, tablets commemorating the Second World War were added to the front face of the lower step of the bevelled plinth, which was cut back to accommodate them.
