Description

Bridge No. 48 on the Union Canal was designed by engineer Hugh Baird around 1820. It features a segmental arch and has a tall parapet. The structure is made of coursed bull-faced whinstone with stugged dressings, an ashlar string course, and a coped parapet. The keystone is inscribed with the number '48'.
