Description

Later 12th cent. Much altered. Originally consisted only

of aisleless Nave (with W. Tower) and Chancel. Rubble. Gabled.

Slated roof. Round-arched S. doorway. Chancel extended

15th cent; fore-stair dated 1644 to former Buchan loft.

Upper part of Tower has been rebuilt; belfry added 1878

(bell dated 1503). Lower part appropriated as burial place

of Earls of Buchan. Shairp of Houston Aisle added on S.

c.1620; barrel-vaulted. Additions on N: 1878. Plain interior:

Chancel arch has been removed.
