Description
Station House and Tarmachan Teashop in Larachbeag, Killin, consists of three separate properties. Station House is a two-storey, three-bay L-plan house with a lower two-storey rear service wing, featuring later alterations and additions. While it likely dates from the mid to late 19th century, it may incorporate earlier materials. The building showcases overhanging eaves and timber bargeboarding, typical of the local Breadalbane style. It also features lined-out render and segmental windowheads, which provide a distinctive appearance and are reminiscent of railway architecture. The presence of traditional glazing is now rare in Killin. Station House is noteworthy not only for its architectural design but also for its historical connection to Killin's now-demolished station.
The principal elevation faces west and includes a central door. The first-floor windows in the outer bays extend beyond the eaves and have pitched roof gables. A new entrance has been added to the ground floor on the right side. The north and south elevations have monopitch single-storey sections with entrances. A modern, non-traditional flat-roofed timber dormer is located on the rear (east) elevation in the re-entrant angle, and there is a stack on the north gable.
The interior has been modernized, as observed in 2004. The materials used include lined-out render on the west, north, and south elevations, with harling on the rear. The roof is covered with graded slate, and the windows are mostly timber sash and case, featuring a 2-pane over 4-pane configuration.
