Description
Callander Bridge, dated 1908, is an impressive and handsome structure that carries the A81 over the River Teith, connecting Callander to Aberfoyle. This bridge replaces an earlier bridge that was built in 1764.
The bridge is constructed of square snecked red sandstone and features three pointed arches that rest on cutwaters. It has heavy roll moulding on the voussoirs and a staggered string course that runs beneath the stepped parapet. The flanking retaining wing walls appear to incorporate original materials from the earlier bridge. Additionally, there are two cast iron light standards on the west side.
