Description
Constructed around 1853, the stables and steading at Inverarnan House were likely built alongside renovations to the Drover's Inn opposite (listed separately). This cream harled building, with integral accommodation, was an essential part of running the Inn and would have catered to the needs of travellers in the 19th century. The building follows an H-plan with overhanging eaves, and a modern housing development now echoes its footprint to the west. Despite later changes, it retains a distinct architectural character reflective of the local Breadalbane style, particularly in its symmetrical road elevation. It forms a group value with the Drover's Inn located opposite.
The east-facing entrance elevation features a central gabled projection with a wide, tall, pointed arch opening. This is flanked by two bays, with advanced gabled single and two-bay sections on the outer edges. The south elevation is two bays wide, with an entrance on the ground floor to the left. The north elevation incorporates accommodation in the form of a symmetrical, three-bay, single-storey and attic house, featuring a central timber-boarded door and wallhead dormers with pitched roofs. A single-storey bay is positioned to the right of the house, with a lean-to addition further along. A gable stack serves the house, while a ridge stack is situated at the junction with the single-storey bay.
The courtyard elevation has been largely obscured by a modern, piend-roofed conservatory addition.
The internal spaces of the steading and stables have undergone comprehensive modernisation.
The building is finished with graded slate roofing, and originally featured predominantly timber sash and case windows with horns, with 2-pane over 2-pane glazing to the house on the north elevation. Most other windows have been replaced with non-traditional modern stained timber replacements.
