Description
Queen's Well in Glen Mark was built around 1862. It features a granite crown made up of six semi-circular sections of bull-faced granite that meet at a central point, topped with a cross finial. This crown is supported by low granite ashlar piers. Below the crown, there are two concentric granite ashlar rings on the ground that encircle the source of the spring, with the outer ring open to allow the spring water to flow out. A bronze plaque on the inner face of one pier reads: "HER MAJESTY QUEEN VICTORIA AND HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS THE PRINCE CONSORT VISITED THIS WELL AND DRANK OF ITS REFRESHING WATER ON THE 20TH SEPTEMBER 1861." Below this, in smaller letters, it states: "THE YEAR OF HER MAJESTY'S GREAT SORROW."
