Description

The Smith Art Gallery and Museum, located at 40 Dumbarton Road in Stirling, was designed by John Lessels from Edinburgh in 1874. The building is primarily single-storey and features a six-window facade made of rubble with an ashlar front section. It has a tetrastyle Roman Doric portico with a pediment and an arched doorpiece, along with a high blocking course and a slated roof.

Outside the southern entrance, there are two decorative, tapered cast iron lamp standards. These are set on polygonal stone bases and have splayed panelled bases with fluted columns adorned with bands of foliage and palmette decoration. The lamp standards are topped with globe lamp shades.
