Description
5 Pitt Terrace in Stirling is an early 19th-century, two-storey semi-detached house featuring bowed end bays. The building is constructed of whin ashlar with freestone dressings. The northern end has been reconstructed with later 19th-century additions and alterations, resulting in a two-storey, dormerless attic semi-detached structure with rubble construction.
No 5 remains largely unaltered, showcasing a one-window and one-window bowed section on the left, which includes a round-arched doorpiece with painted margins. There is a flanking single-storey wing and a screen wall that features a round-arched footgate and a pedimented garage entrance. In contrast, No 6 has had its bow replaced in the mid-Victorian era with an advanced gabled section on the right, which includes a canted bay extending through all three floors. This section boasts a finely decorated doorpiece with a round arch that springs directly from panelled Doric pilasters, along with a sculptured head keystone and reliefs at the shouldered openings.
Additionally, No 7 is a later single-storey attic and basement villa built on the site of the screen wall corresponding to No 5. It features a two-window facade with a centre pilastered doorpiece and railed steps, along with an advanced gabled section on the right. This villa has a canted bay at the basement and ground floor, and a bipartite window at the attic level, along with two small gothic dormers. The roofs of all these structures are slated.
