Description
2 Gladstone Place in Stirling is a mid to late Victorian Italianate villa that stands two stories tall with a basement, constructed from polished ashlar stone. The building features an asymmetrical design and includes a prominent four-storey entrance tower topped with a pyramid roof. The entrance is highlighted by an Ionic columned and arched doorpiece, accessed by railed steps.
On the east and north fronts, there is a canted bay that extends through all floors. The ground floor windows are mostly pilastered and have moulded stop-chamfers, while the first-floor windows are primarily nook-shafted with shouldered heads. The third stage of the tower features pairs of arched and shafted windows, and the top stage has triplets of round arched windows set within Doric pilastered angles. The basement level has an unusual treatment of bays with set-offs from square bases. The villa is topped with a slated roof.
