Telephone Call Box, New Lanark Road, New Lanark

The telephone call box on New Lanark Road in New Lanark is a standard K6 telephone kiosk designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott in 1935 and installed around 1950-1960. It stands 8 feet high and is made of cast iron, painted in Post Office red. The box features lying-pane glazing on three sides with narrow margin lights, and one glazed side has a cup handle that aligns with the fourth and fifth panes to form the door. The rear has a blind cast-iron panel that holds a telephone and a shelf. Each side displays a rectangular glass opal with the word "TELEPHONE" in black lettering, a vent below, and is topped with a central embossed crown. The structure rises into four segmental-headed pediments that terminate in a saucer dome.
