Nursery Buildings, New Lanark Road, New Lanark

The Nursery Buildings on New Lanark Road, built in 1809 with additions in 1850, consist of a terrace of mill workers' tenements that includes a village bakery at the eastern end. The buildings are set against steeply sloping ground and are divided into three parts. They are constructed from sandstone rubble with stugged and droved ashlar dressings, featuring generally regular fenestration with tabbed margins.

Nos. 1-7 is a four-storey, nine-bay symmetrical tenement on the western side, which has a central round-arched principal doorway and a turnpike stair at the rear. Nos. 8-9 is a three-storey, seven-bay tenement that houses a village store on the ground floor. It has steps leading up to a central door with a fanlight, flanked by two pairs of shallow bow shop windows with relieving arches.

No. 10, added in 1850, is a single-storey, three-bay former village bakery that features a central door and a bipartite window, along with a two-bay block to the left. The buildings have 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, ashlar-coped ridge stacks with small black cans, ashlar-coped skews, and flat-topped skewputts on the bakery section, all covered with grey slates.

Inside the workers' tenements, there is a curved stone stair leading to the upper floors.
