Description

79 High Street in Biggar is a building designed by architect Mr. Fraser of Dumfries, dated 1863 above the eastern door. The structure features an asymmetrical facade with two storeys and an attic in the west gable. It is constructed from snecked squared rubble with ashlar dressings and has a slate roof with four unequal bays, each topped with finialled gables. There are two doors, one off-centre and another in the eastern bay. The ground floor displays mock crenellation above two segmental-headed windows. The projecting eastern bay has canted angles that corbel out to form a square at the first floor, which features two cusped lancets set under a pointed arch. Above this, there is a depiction of St. Andrew within a vesica shape.
