Description
Bystone House is a large neo-Tudor villa built circa 1929. It was designed for W W MacFarlane of MacFarlane's biscuits. The house has a largely U-shaped plan, with a courtyard facing north-east. The central block features a recessed door beneath an arched cavetto head, and tall windows in the re-entrant angles. The left-hand gable has a projecting chimney breast and ingle-neuk windows. The asymmetrical south-west elevation is long, with gables and a canted window, and the front door is recessed behind a wide arched opening. The exterior is white harled, with contrasting red brick dressings and a tiled roof. The house has two storeys and an attic, with piended dormers and decorative stacks. It features mullioned and transomed windows with leaded glazing, as well as brick cornices.
