Description
The Shore Boat House and Slipway, attributed to the 3rd Marquess of Ailsa, was built in 1871 for the boat house and 1882 for the slipway. This single-storey, rectangular boat house is clad in vertically boarded timber and features a concrete slipway located on the shore beneath Culzean Castle.
On the north gable elevation of the boat house, there are timber double doors and a full-width fixed window with 16 vertical panes above the entrance. The east, south, and west elevations are blind, with a timber side door and short concrete lean-to buttresses on the west side. There is also a timber-framed fixed-case window, and the roof is irregularly pitched and covered with slates. The interior, as seen in 2011, consists of a single chamber with a raised platform to the west and south, timber columns on the west side, and exposed timber rafters and beams, along with a gracel floor.
The slipway is a flat concrete structure that extends from the boat house to the west.
