Description
9 Miller Road in Ayr is a pair of two-storey, four-bay villas built in the later 19th century, with the villa on the left having been remodelled. The exterior features painted coursed sandstone, with rubble on the sides, and includes a base course, a first-floor cill course, an eaves course, a cornice, and a blocking course.
On the north (entrance) elevation, there are entrances to the outer bays at ground level. The entrance to No 7 has a slim-columned, corniced, block-pedimented doorpiece with a glazed timber door. The entrance to No 9 features a margined, corniced doorpiece with a two-leaf timber door and a letterbox fanlight. Above both entrances, there are single windows aligned at the first floor. The inner bay of No 7 is advanced, pilastered, and pedimented, with tripartite windows on both floors. No 9 has single windows on both floors, with the ground floor window corniced.
The windows are primarily plate glass timber sash and case, though the first-floor windows of No 9 are modern. The roof is covered with grey slate and features stone skews, rooflights, a coped gablehead, and central ridge stacks, along with circular and polygonal cans.
The interiors were not seen in 1998. The property is enclosed by a low coped boundary wall that surrounds the entrance elevation, with a low gatepier on the outer right marking the boundary wall. There are modern railings and a gate leading to No 7.
