Description
The building is a rectory located at 70 Bentinck Drive in Troon, dating from around 1910, with additions made by Henry Brown in 1919. It is a single-storey structure with an attic, featuring three bays and architectural details inspired by Charles Voysey. The exterior is finished in whitewashed harl, with deeply overhanging eaves and roofs covered in swept red tiles. The corners of the building are boldly buttressed, and there is a recessed entrance with glazed tiles.
The northeast elevation, which faces the entrance, is symmetrical and includes a gabled frontispiece. This features a round-arched porch at the center of the ground level, with a part-glazed timber panelled door set back within it, flanked by sidelights and glazed-tile walls. Above the porch, there is a segmental-arched tripartite window set in a skewed gablehead, while tripartite windows are located in the outer bays on the ground level. The building predominantly has 6-pane timber casement windows, although some modern glazing is present on the sides, and the porch features decorative leaded glazing. The roofs have a slightly bell-cast shape and are covered in swept red tiles, with coped stacks finished in whitewashed harl and topped with circular terracotta cans.
The interior was not seen in 1997. The property is enclosed by a boundary wall made of stepped whitewashed harl, which surrounds the front of the site, along with timber fencing and a cast-iron pedestrian entry gate.
