Description
71-75 Dalbalir Road in Ayr is a three-storey, six-bay tenement built in 1902 by Allan Stevenson, which is part of a terrace and includes commercial premises on the ground floor. The building features polished red ashlar stonework. It has a cornice above the shopfronts and canted oriel windows in the outer bays on the first and second floors, with the second-floor windows having a cornice that rises to break the deep parapet of the roof. There is a strip-moulded central wallhead stack.
The south elevation has a central Art Nouveau entrance with a glazed timber door, and a bracketed cornice that separates the iron-worked letterbox fanlight. There are recessed central entrances to the shopfronts on either side, each with timber glazed doors, letterbox fanlights, and sidelights. The shopfronts are flanked by shop windows. The central bays on the first and second floors have bipartite windows, while the penultimate bays on the outer left and right have single windows. The outer bays are canted.
The building features a combination of plate glass timber sash and case windows along with modern glazing. The roof, which was not visible in 1998, has corniced wallhead and gablehead stacks, as well as circular cans. The interior was not seen in 1998.
