Description
207-209 High Street in Ayr is a three-storey and attic tenement building designed by James I McDerment in 1862. The building features seven bays arranged in a 2-2-3 grouping and has modern shopfronts at the ground floor. It is constructed of painted ashlar and includes architectural details such as a modillion cornice above the shopfront, an eaves course, a cornice, and a blocking course. The windows on the first and second floors have architrave surrounds, with corniced aprons on the first-floor windows. The outer right side of the second floor has three windows supported by square brackets.
The northeast elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a modern shopfront at ground level, with an entrance located within the Kyle Centre. The first and second floors feature regular window arrangements, and there are four piended dormers in the attic. The windows at the first, second, and attic floors are 4-pane timber sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and includes stone skews, coped stacks, and circular cans. The interiors were not seen in 1998.
