Description
West Gate Piers and Walls at Lunna House, Lunna Ness, date from the earlier 19th century. They consist of a symmetrical set of paired gatepiers that flank the gateway to the southwest avenue. The structure features lime-harl-pointed rubble walls and piers, which have droved sandstone ashlar margins. The inner gatepiers are triangular in shape with curved faces to the west, and the margins at the opening show remains of iron hinge-pins, topped with beach-stone finials. The rubble walls, which curve forward to the west, flank the inner piers and connect to the outer piers, which are rhomboid in shape and also have matching beach-stone finials. There are cantilevered steps symmetrically placed on each side of the link walls. Additionally, drystone walls gently curve to the west, leading to the road to the north and the kirkyard to the south.
