Description

The Methodist Church in North Roe, built in 1878, is a mission chapel and house that features a single storey and attic. The structure consists of a three-bay house on the south side and a three-bay chapel on the north side, creating an asymmetrical six-bay principal elevation facing east. The walls are harled with droved ashlar margins around the openings and projecting cills at the windows.

The east elevation is asymmetrical with a grouped three-three bay arrangement. The penultimate bay on the left contains a vertically-boarded entrance door with a two-pane fanlight leading into the house, with regular fenestration in the flanking bays. To the right of the center, there is a two-leaf vertically-boarded timber entrance door with a two-pane fanlight for the chapel, accompanied by regular fenestration in the bays to the right.

The north gable presents a symmetrical two-bay elevation with tall windows in each bay that extend into the gablehead. At the apex, there is a gabled painted ashlar bellcote housing a bell in a pointed-arched opening. The south gable features a single attic window on the left.

The windows throughout the building are timber sash and case, with a 12-pane lying-pane pattern for both the house and chapel on the principal elevation, a 16-pane lying-pane pattern on the north gable, and a 4-pane pattern on the south gable. The roof is covered with purple-grey slate and includes cast-iron gutters and downpipes, skew copes on the end gables and party wall, and harled apex stacks with copes, with the south stack featuring a cavetto-moulded design and circular cans.

At the road, there is a cement-rendered and painted dwarf wall, which is terminated at both ends by square piers topped with pyramidal caps. The wall is adorned with hooped railings and gates.
