Description

This is a mid-19th and early-20th century former fishing station, consisting of a pier, slipway, and associated buildings to the east and west.

The pier and slipway are constructed of rubble, with the pier projecting northwards into the voe. The southern end extends east and west, embracing the flanking buildings. A slipway is located at the north end of the east side, and a later timber extension extends the pier further north.

The eastern building is a 2-storey, 3-bay L-plan former sail loft, now used as a camping building, situated on sloping ground to the pier front. It has corrugated sheet cladding with timber details above a concrete base to the north and side elevations of the principal range. The rear elevation and a wing are partially cement-rendered rubble. The asymmetrical north (principal) elevation has bays offset to the right; a pair of timber doors are at ground level in the centre bay, with a rendered block wall and small windows clasping the corner to the right and a 4-pane timber sash window to the left. Eight-pane timber windows are located on the first floor of each bay. The western elevation has a 2-bay gable end with a timber door at ground level to the right of centre, a rendered block wall with a small window clasping the corner to the left, and a 2-light multi-pane timber window on the first floor. The south (rear) elevation features a rubble stair leading to a timber door on the first floor to the outer left, and an advanced chimney-gable with a pair of timber doors to the left of centre and irregular fenestration to the right. An east-facing gable of the principal range has a single window on the first floor, alongside a 3-bay wing with 4-pane timber windows in each bay. The roof is clad with corrugated sheets and has timber skew copes, topped by a single-flue brick ridge-stack with a circular can.

The western building is a warehouse consisting of a 2-storey, 3 x 4-bay principal block and a single-storey with attic office wing to the north. It has a concrete base. The principal block is cement-rendered at ground level and has a vertically-boarded timber upper floor; the wing is clad with horizontally-boarded timber siding. The east elevation features modern openings including a full-height sliding door to the left of centre and a multi-pane window to the right of centre. A timber door and irregular fenestration are present to the office wing. The south gable is blank at ground level, with 3-pane timber fixed-lights at first floor in each bay. The west elevation is blank at ground level in the bays flanking the centre, with a timber door in the bay to the outer right and a modern window to the outer left. The first floor is regularly fenestrated with 3-pane timber fixed-lights, and the office wing has irregular fenestration. The north gable is irregularly fenestrated across two bays, with an additional window in the gablehead. Overhanging eaves are present on the roofs, with shingle covering the main block and corrugated sheet cladding on the office.
