Description

The Methodist Church in Fair Isle was built in 1886 and is a symmetrical hall church with two bays on each side. It features a projecting entrance porch at the east gable. The walls are made of harl pointed rubble, accented with stugged and droved sandstone dressings and details. The gabled stone porch has a pointed arched door that contains modern two-leaf glazed timber entrance doors, along with a three-pane fanlight above. There is a narrow louvered opening centered in the main gable behind the porch, and a gabled bellcote with a bell in place sits on a rectangular plinth at the apex. The side and rear elevations are regularly fenestrated with pointed-arched windows in each bay. The side elevations have nine-pane fixed lights, while the west gable features a pair of pointed-arched stained glass windows from 1936 that depict religious scenes. The roof is covered with purple grey slate, although the skew copes have been removed.

Inside, the church has timber fittings in the hall, including vertically boarded wainscoting, pews, and ceiling lining. A platform pulpit is located along the west wall, complete with ball finialled newels on the balustrade.

The boundary walls and gatepiers consist of a rubble wall with a semicircular concrete cope that encloses a rectangular kirkyard. The eastern gatepiers are square and harl-pointed, topped with pyramidal caps.
