Description
This mid-19th century farm steading has undergone later alterations. It consists of a substantial 10-bay range to the west and an U-plan steading at the rear, with a mill building projecting to the east from the northeast corner, forming a rough L-plan. The walls are made of harl-pointed rubble with droved sandstone ashlar margins and stugged sandstone dressing at the corners.
The west elevation features a single-storey, three-bay grieve's house with gabled porches on both the east and west sides at the outer right. To the left, there is a near-symmetrical seven-bay elevation, with the bays arranged in a 2-3-2 pattern. The central three-bay cartshed has a raised wallhead and segmental-arched cart-arches in each bay, with square loft windows above. There are two widely spaced bays for the flanking barns; the barn on the right has a window inserted at the center of its elevation, while the left barn is partly obscured by a modern lean-to addition.
The grieve's house features modern glazing, while some of the barns have timber louveres. The roofs are covered with purple-grey slate on the grieve's house and mill building, with the former having piend-roofed dormers on the east pitch and corrugated sheeting on the other pitches. The grieve's house has stugged sandstone stacks with circular cans, and there is a single-flue stack on the northwest gable of the U-plan steading.
